Charito Cisneros (cont.)

The New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to spotlight Charito Cisneros, the Chairperson of the New York Hispanic Cosmetology and Beauty Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Cisneros taught at the prestigious Wilfred Academy International Beauty School for 18 years and is now currently an educator at Hostos Community College.

"The New York Hispanic Cosmetology and Beauty Chamber of Commerce was established in order to support and help persons wishing to start their own health and beauty businesses. "Lots of people come from their native countries and they have the training and experience--we help them get licensed in the state of New York." says Cisneros. "We help them learn how to secure government or private funds, how to use new technologies, and show them how to open their own business."

The New York Hispanic Chamber of Beauty and Cosmetology provides programs that are designed to help persons needing legal and professional advice in the field of cosmetology and small business management. Through a network of supervisors, educators, and successful businesswomen, the Chamber sponsors events and workshops on a diverse range of beauty, cosmetology, and business development subjects such as skin care, makeup application, and dressing for success, as well as providing support for victims of, and advocating against, domestic violence.

"I opened the [New York Hispanic] Cosmetology and Beauty Chamber of Commerce because when I was starting out no one wanted to help me; I am now helping students who want to get their licenses, and this is my contribution to the community."
